... So, you have your furry dice, your leopard skin seats, your nodding dog on the parcel rack - you're ready to go! You're on the grid, watching the lights... red, red, red... GREEN! GO! GO! GO! You floor it, the wheels spin, you see everyone take off in front of you, but you're sure you saw some cars behind you too. Unfortunately, all you can see is the smoke from your tires in your rear view mirror, but hey, you're off and heading for the first bend and... bang, your in the wall. Well, this is a sim isn't it?
The first few laps are always hard on a decent driving game worth its salt and this is no exception, but boy, is it worth the wait. After just a few short races, you're in the middle of your first good dog fight. The heart is racing, there have been a couple of knocks here and there and you have both had your fists flailing in the air, but this is real racing. The cars feel like cars and as you tug from left to right on your wheel, the tyres struggle for grip, you correct it and a smug smile fills your face. Now you're exiting the corner, breezing into the slip stream of your nemesis and gaining ground on him faster than you can say 'I'm gonna beat cha!'. A few moments later, you're in front... but for how long?
This is where the true spirit of a driving game is captured in Live For Speed. The physics model compels you to make that one more tweak to your camber, that one last go at gaining the lead and leaves you wanting to race just one more time to improve your best lap time......
